I recently started Bikram yoga because I was looking for an alternate activity whilst I had to temporarily stop running due to injury. After I survived the first class, I continued for another few sessions and started feeling more energetic, so I decided to sign up for the 30 day challenge.
During this short time, I have experienced many benefits from Bikram; improvement in posture and flexibility, more movement in my lower-right back, greater awareness of what areas of my body that I need to work on and mentally I am more focused and positive. I feel strong and capable to achieve. I have just finished my first 30 day challenge and now going for 100 days!
My reason to extend the challenge to 100 days is that bikram has helped me in a way I did not expect. For anyone suffering from a food (or in my case gluten) intolerance, practicing Bikram daily can help manage and deal with the side effects experienced when testing for celiac. This includes fatigue, severe adnominal pain & of course attitude. Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I drag myself to Bikram because I know no matter how much I struggle or have to sit down during postures, in 90 minutes I will feel better because it temporarily eases abdominal pain, I feel more positive and get a little burst of energy. I feel that I'm doing something positive and each day I am becoming stronger – in my mind, body & spirit.
Also, I really like that each teacher has some 'words of wisdom'. There is a great deal of knowledge passed around the studio! For me, I'm not sure if I am approaching this as a challenge anymore, but rather just something I do almost every day.
