Teacher Profile: Felicity

How long have you been teaching Bikram yoga?
I'm a new teacher recently returned from Acapulco, Mexico where I underwent the intensive 9 week training program with Bikram - an amazing and challenging experience. But I've been practicing Bikram Yoga regularly for over 3 years.
What was the hardest pose for you to learn?
The poses that I found the most challenging to do correctly were Triangle pose and Cobra pose.
What is your favourite pose and why?
I love Triangle pose because I can feel it working my thigh muscles and how can you not love that? I also love Fixed-Firm pose - at that point in the class I know I've hit the 'downhill point' and there's only a few more poses to the final Savasana!
What's your favourite thing about Bikram yoga compared to other styles of yoga?
The way it makes you feel! I had tried other yoga and other forms of exercise but nothing had 'stuck'. After my first class I just kept returning. In the early days I really struggled in class but regardless of how I felt during when I walked out the door I always felt amazing. The effects it has had on my stress levels and in toning my body has been amazing. During my training I also heard so many stories about how Bikram Yoga had literally changed peoples' lives. I believe it's the combination of the heat and the way that Bikram has designed the series that makes this yoga so special.
What's the most common thing you see students doing wrong?
In Triangle pose many students are not getting their hips down low enough to ensure their thigh is parallel to the floor. Also, in Cobra pose students need to ensure that they drop their shoulders down and lift up using their back strength (not their hands).
What is something (unrelated to yoga) that we would be surprised to know about you?
I used to be a waiter at a theatre restaurant (during my uni days) where I had to dress up - I was part of a team that included Snow White, Alice in Wonderland and Zorro. We'd sing birthday songs to our customers, however (sadly) I am not a good singer!
