First Time Students
For your first experience of Bikram Yoga
Fitzroy, there is no need to book ahead. All of our classes
run for 90 minutes, follow the same sequence of 26 postures
and are beginner-friendly. All you need to do is to view the
class timetable and select any of the 40 classes for females / 39 for males on our schedule
for your first class.
As a new student we ask that you arrive
at least 15 to 20 minutes before your class is scheduled
to begin. This will ensure you leave plenty of time to find
the studio, to fill in the registration form and become familiar
with the studio.
On your first visit you may purchase
our Special Introductory Offer Pass. This pass costs $19 and will allow
you to practice in as many classes as you wish over
a ten consecutive day period.
Some students come in 10 days in a row
and some come in less. We encourage you to try as many
classes as you can, since the yoga is free after the
first day and it gives you more chances to discover the unique
health benefits of Bikram Yoga.
There are several things you will need: a yoga mat, two large bath towels and water to drink. One towel
will be placed on your mat to catch the sweat during class.
After class you may use the other towel for a shower in our
changing rooms. If you need any of these items when you come
in, we have yoga mats and towels for hire at $1 each and cold
water for sale. We sell yoga mats as well.
Be sure to dress for hot conditions, which means most girls wear shorts or 3/4 length tights with
a singlet or sports bra, and the guys wear shorts with or
without a singlet. We have secure electronic lockers for storage
of your personal clothing and valuables.
Before coming to class you will need to hydrate well, drinking several glasses of water before
a morning class and a litre or more during the day before
an afternoon/evening class. Also, please don't eat for
two hours before class.
What to Bring
• A large bottle of water - you will
want to drink during the class
• A thin yoga mat (or hire one of ours)
• Two bath-sized towels - one placed on your mat and
the other is for a shower after class (or you can hire towels)
• Clothing appropriate for hot conditions
• Girls: shorts or 3/4 tights with sports bra or singlet
• Guys: shorts, with or without a singlet is okay
• An open mind to try something new!
Bikram Yoga Etiquette
• Please remove your shoes when you come into reception and leave them under the benches.
• Please don't take personal belongings into the class,
they may be left in the secure lockers or in the changing
room.
• Bring only your yoga mat, one towel and your water
into class.
• Be prepared to stay in the yoga room
for the entire 90-minute class.
• Please do not speak once you have entered the yoga room.
As a new student, please position yourself
in the back of the yoga room away from the front mirrors.
Just place your mat on the floor with the towel on top and
lie down and relax.
As a beginning student you may feel a bit
overwhelmed in your first class. This is a normal reaction
to your new environment, so please just sit down and wait
for it to pass. Your body just needs to become accustomed
to the hot environment as it begins to flush out toxins and
opens areas that have been stagnant for years. This is just
the yoga doing it's work to heal your body.
Of course if there is an emergency, you
may use the toilet just outside the studio door. We just recommend
that you return to the studio as soon as you are finished
to prevent your body from becoming chilled.
After class please leave quietly and try to hold off any conversation until you are back upstairs.
When you return to the changing rooms, please
have a short shower, both to save water and to be respectful
to other students waiting for the shower.
