Eco Statement

For Our Planet:

As part of our environmental policy, our business has signed up with OriginEnergy in a program called Business Green Earth.

This program purchases electrical power for our business from a wind farm. Currently the maximum amount a business can dedicate to renewable sources is 20%. We have advised Origin that as new renewable energy programs become available, we will take that option immediately.

We also participate in a carbon offset program with Origin Energy for our natural gas usage. We have arranged for a 100% carbon offset of our carbon footprint from gas consumption, by supporting tree planting to capture CO2, and also by supporting technology to trap methane gas from escaping from waste land fill sites.

In practicing yoga you have made a commitment to yourself to take care of that beautiful body that carries your soul through this life. By being GREEN we can all help to take care of GAIA, this beautiful earth, which carries ALL of us through our lives.

For Our Students:

We believe that it is important to not only consider what you do with your body (your Bikram yoga practice), and what you put in your mind (thoughts, goals, etc.), but ALSO what you put on your body (soaps etc.)

At the front of the studio we have installed a screen door which allows us to cross- ventilate the studio between classes to help freshen and dry out the room and carpet to prevent accumulation of moisture that may allow bacterial growth.

To further sanitize the studio environment, we use a patented carpet cleaning service (originally from the USA) that uses NO water or steam in the cleaning process. It is a dry method, using organic cellulose materials that are massaged through the carpet and then vacuumed up, removing dust and odours from the carpet. Our new carpet cleaning system is very efficient at keeping bacterial growth to a minimum and is the system of choice in many hospital environments where bacterial control is a high priority.

When you walk upstairs into reception your nose will catch the scent of our studio's signature essential oil blend called "Clear the Mind!" Our sense of smell enables us to change the way we feel and think within 3 seconds, as the odour chemicals that we inhale, via olfaction, create chemical changes in our brain. "Clear the Mind" is a unique formulation, specially prepared for us by our student, Judith White, which includes rosemary to stimulate and activate the senses-enhancing the ability to remember, lemongrass to cleanse and detoxify the old, peppermint to clean and cleanse the mind of un-resourceful thoughts and behaviours and sandalwood to instill strength and courage to help stabilize us in the face of extreme physical, mental and emotional change. Sandalwood also links us to India, the mother land of yoga.

Judith has also assisted us with the formulation of our Clear the Mind pure organic soap used exclusively in the showers and hand basins. After a 90 minute healthy detoxifying sweat, with your body pores open, we offer for your use a handmade soap made from pure plant extracts. This beautiful cleansing formula has the same ph as your skin and is biodegradable within 48 hours. Our formula is free from parabens, synthetic fragrances and colours and preservatives. The scent is from the addition of our Clear the Mind oil blend.

We are very open to suggestions from our students about their experience at our studio and that includes any ways you can suggest we become more environmentally friendly. So please, if you have ideas or feedback that would be constructive, you are welcome to pass it on by email or phone.
